Capeverdean songstress Maria de Barros will continue her promotional tour with appearances at the Zeiterion Theatre in New Bedford, MA, on February 19th and the PCA Great Performances in Portland, ME, on February 20th, 2010.
Her newly released “Morabeza,” produced by Djim Job, Kalu Monteiro and Danny Luchansky, was recently nominated for a NAACP Image Award in the category of Outstanding World Music Album. The NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) Image Awards, which was founded in 1909, will air live on Fox on Friday, February 26th, 2010 at 8 p.m.
Maria will be accompanied by her five piece band--Kalu Monteiro (Drums), Djim Job (Bass), Zérui Depina (ukulele), Sandro Rebel (Keyboards), and Fabio Soares (Guitar).
Born in Senegal from Capeverdean parents, Maria previously released hit albums such as “Nha Mundo” (My World, 2003) and “Dança ma mim” (Dance with me, 2005). She received the Miriam Makeba Award for Excellence in Music in 2006 and the Cultural Certificate of Merit awarded by the Ministry of Culture in Cape Verde in 2008.
